acrylic on drafting vellum

This series of acrylic paintings was done as part of an architecture design project when I was in college. The project involved a cross-cultural design project -- I believe I was designing a center for the study of Japanese calligraphy to be built on some island in Finland. Yeah, random, I know. Anyway, to show where I was headed with my design and to demonstrate the melding of the two cultures, I did these acrylic paintings as part of my presentation. Frankly, I don't remember now exactly how I arrived at all of this, but I remember experimenting with sketching the layout of the building with the same kind of brush and ink used to do Japanese calligraphy, and that the flow of the building had a lot to do with both the geometric tendencies in Finnish architecture and the strokes used in Japanese writing.

Ultimately, I used my sketches as a blueprint and painted a series of seven images on the best paper I had at the time -- drafting vellum.

The originals have been sold.

Interesting... sorry, that's about as far as my advanced critique goes. But keep up the good work, lovely stroke definition, good use of colours, especially the primary colours juxtaposed with the black/white! :)
